about

Time Bomb. Tick three … honey, there’s no kill switch. And that’s the point. The songs and ideas just keep coming. So I’m a time bomb. This is crazy. But maybe not. Two years ago I decided to spend the rest of my life with my music. Decisions were made. Many guitars were loaded into my trusty van, Alex. I looked at the “Welcome To Vancouver” sign in the rearview mirror and off we went. Spend the rest of my life going through the catalog. Catching up. Saturn and the angels said no. Here’s some new stuff to mess about with. Hmm. Okay, I’m up for the challenge. This one took me about five minutes to write. Technically. It actually surprised me how fast the demo was put together. It was that little intro solo that sparked things. There’s tick one. Most of the ideas and parts stuck around. And there’s always that little bit of craziness. Every session. Some thing that sets it apart from all the others. In this case, it was a last minute add-on. The breakdown section. Out of nowhere. It seems natural now. Oh, I latched on to that idea pretty quickly. And spent an extra hour jamming when I should have been moving on. Like a boy in a sandbox. This is why I love the WarRoom. I can loop the studio track in the NerveCenter. Then assign the feed one floor down to the WarRoom. A small PA, monitors and a whole lot of amplification. And those guitars. And those foot pedals. And those effects units. And. Well, I could go on. At some point you have to get the doll ready for her debut. A little frosting, my lovelies. Time Bomb was actually written for the Lifeboat Edition. The temporary compilation that housed the twenty-five songs you would choose from. Some songs were castaways from the “Parade” album. Some songs came from “Calendar Girls”. This girl will get her first live test drive in late June. Maybe see if I can’t get the audience clapping along. Bring ‘em all in. I love that stuff. Summer festivals. When it’s right there’s no vibe that can beat it. Of the fourteen songs I’ll be performing at the festival, this one is second on the program. For now. And with the new album finally making the rounds, I’m ready to begin work on the live mixes. And then its rehearse, rehearse, rehearse. In the WarRoom. On the highway. Other drivers must think me insane. Singing along at the top of my lungs to the backing tracks blasting out of Alex’s stereo system. Window down. Probably a big smile across Alex’s front grille. We’ve been down a lot of roads. I feel like the karaoke king. I’m a bit blown away. Forty new songs ready to go. Without touching any of the material from LIZARD ON A ROCK, UNTIL NOW or SLOUCHING TOWARDS BETHLEHEM. And I just can’t keep up with the new stuff. I must be at least ten demos behind. Oh, well. It’s a very good thing there’s a lot of back burners here at CandyLand. Even before clean-up in aisle three, this song was one of the top five chosen for the album. By you. So if our little time bomb makes a big noise somewhere in cyberspace it’s your fault. Tick, tick, tick, tick, boom! Watch for fall-out … xoRJ

lyrics

Tick one .. tempermental
Tick two .. I’m unpredictable
Tick three .. handle with caution
Tick four .. hit the floor

I’m a time bomb - baby
Ready to go off on you
I’m a time bomb - baby
Tick - tick - tick - tick

Tick one .. timer’s faulty
Tick two .. my wires are crossed
Tick three .. watch for fall-out
Tick four .. hit the floor

I’m a time bomb - baby
Ready to go off on you
I’m a time bomb - baby
Tick - tick - tick - tick - boom ..

Mmm .. yeah, yeah .. mmm yeah
I’m a time bomb - baby

Tick one .. untested model
Tick two .. I’m the prototype
Tick three .. honey, there’s no kill switch
Tick four .. hit the floor

I’m a time bomb - baby
Ready to go off on you
I’m a time bomb - baby
Tick - tick - tick - tick

Time bomb - baby
Ready to go off on you
I’m a time bomb - baby
Tick - tick - tick - tick - boom ..

I’m a time bomb - oh, I’m a time bomb
Ooo yeah ooh yeah
Mama said - now, yeah - you’re a time bomb
Ooh, I’m ready to go off on you
Time bomb - baby
Ready to go off on you
I’m your time bomb - baby - yeah yeah
Ready to go off on you
Ready to go - ready to go
Whoo hoo hoo - ready to go off on you
Ready to go - I’m ready to go ..
