about

Riverside Rockroll Revival. “Tucked in my boots and I’m sneakin’ ‘em in.” That’s the flavour and attitude we’re looking for. Let’s go back in time. It’s rockroll time. Back in the day. There was always an impromptu rockroll show going on somewhere. Every weekend. Before we get started, Stan (Rollo) Brollo, he of OUT TO SEA fame, asked for a disclaimer. He is not, in fact, the Stan mentioned in this song. He doesn’t hang with that sort of crowd. The lad is awaiting the return of the brothers Shmengie. I’m not sure if the spelling is correct or not. No matter. Stan doesn’t read song notes. Back to our story. Of all the material presented here, this song has stuck around the longest. It was originally earmarked for FRIDAY NIGHT but didn’t make the cut when it was time to release the album. Not quite ready. Again, something missing. Enter Sal. When in doubt, call Sal. Our man Sal. That’s Mr. Paglisi to you. In all fairness, it was Beaverdell who suggested we think about horns. We were already leaning that way when we were tracking HEART BY HEART. At first I thought it may be suitable as the bonus track. That all changed when the subject of horns came up. But just a couple of songs worth. There’s not much for guitars in this one. Mostly that main guitar hogging up the main riff. Horn shots round things out nicely. Hats off to our man Sal. A lot of ghosts in this one. Julie, Jack, Stevie, John, Irene and Slim, to name a few. Oh, and Stan. The drummer guy. Not the Accordion guy. That’s our Stan. It can get confusing at times. Maybe that’s why mickeys of gin are necessary. At times. To keep everyone sorted. Ghosts or otherwise … xoRJ

lyrics

One little, two little mickeys of Gin
Tucked in my boots and I’m sneakin’ ‘em in
My friend Julie .. her boyfriend Jack
Invited me down past the railroad tracks
Goin’ to a riverside rockroll revival tonight

Stan .. he got a snare, a kick and a hat
A nasty ol’ demeanour he got from his dad
Stevie got a bass he bought at a pawn
And a second-hand amp from a neighbour named John
Goin’ to a riverside rockroll revival tonight

Well, the rockroll tunes are fast and tight
Down by the riverside
Gonna shake, gonna rattle .. roll all night
Down by the riverside
Goin’ to a riverside rockroll revival tonight

Slim knows a girl .. her name’s Irene
Smooth talker, fast girl - a Bordeaux Queen
She’s got a couple girlfriends she’s bringing along
A little razzle dazzle and the beat goes on
Goin’ to a riverside rockroll revival tonight

Well, the rockroll tunes are fast and tight
Down by the riverside
Gonna shake, gonna rattle .. roll all night
Down by the riverside
Goin’ to a riverside rockroll revival tonight
Woo yeah -

One little, two little mickeys of Gin
Tucked in my boots and I’m sneakin’ ‘em in
My friend Julie .. her boyfriend Jack
Invited me down past the railroad tracks
Goin’ to a riverside rockroll revival tonight

Well, the rockroll tunes are fast and tight
Down by the riverside
Gonna shake, gonna rattle .. roll all night
Down by the riverside
Goin’ to a riverside rockroll revival tonight
Woo yeah -

Goin’ to a riverside rockroll revival tonight
Woo yeah -

We didn't get to test drive "Friday Night" the way we wanted to. Mr./Ms. Universe stepped in. Our seventh full-length release "Piece Of Your Ghost" becomes available on June 18th, 2021. I'll see what I can do about a single release or two. September sounds good. Summer's coming! Time to kick a few ghosts around ... Something in mind ... hmmm ... xoRJ ... more
