about

Heroine. Everybody knows this story. For those of you who don't, wander over to our CDBaby page for the ‘Beth' write-up. This song probably has more fans than I do. Very popular with the ladies! The lyrics to this song were almost thrown out by mistake, I began writing a new song on the flip-side of the page and well, it wasn't going well and I would have tossed it out if not for the telltale coffee cup ring. I spent six hours working out the parts on Baby Taylor in Nashville tuning. No reason really, as I had nailed the parts and picking structure within the first fifteen minutes. I just didn't want to stop playing. The only track to feature my manager Malcolm’s twelve-string. The only time I ever got to record with it in the studio. Story has it that it once belonged to Leo Kottke. Nicked from him at the Airport terminal in Montreal, Canada. And then sold to Malcolm’s mom. A Gibson Heritage 12-string. A beauty of a girl. So there she is, next to Baby Taylor in those fat acoustic tracks. A true heroine … xoRJ

lyrics

Here I am…make your move
It isn’t hard for you to hold me tonight
You should know - you can’t lose
I’m the best thing you could have in your life

Shall I wait .. in a room
‘Til your small voice beckons me on
Until that day gets closer, babe
It’s just one more night alone.

I only want to be a hero
In a world where we can win
I’ll be the author of your story
And you will be my heroine.

Ah, the moon … burns like a candle
Pools of wax all over the ground
Tonight the nightbirds scream your name
And you’re nowhere to be found

Shall I stay … in this tomb
With tapestries as dark as the stone
One more day in this empty place
And just one more night alone

I only want to be a hero
In a world where we can win
I’ll be the author of your story
And you will be my heroine.

I only want to be a hero
In a world where we can win
I’ll be the author of your story
And you will be my heroine.

I only want to be a hero
In a world where we can win
I’ll be the author of your story
And you will be my heroine.

You will be my heroine
You will be my heroine
You could be my heroine
