After Eight. Make my way home, hope to explain. Wow. I really blew it. I’m about a block from home and I’m a drowned rat. I missed the train. It wasn’t on time. And I cut it too close. My fault. It couldn’t be helped. I would have driven there but when I went to the parking garage I found the exit blocked by a moving van. I spent some time searching for the owner. Rang the building manager. No answer. Time to get trucking. So I ended up walking after missing the train. The next train wouldn’t do. And about half-way there it started raining.
So here I am making my way home. It’s almost nine now. This just may be the saddest Friday Night ever. She’s so popular. Men falling all over her. About a week ago I finally found the nerve to ask her out. She said sure. We’d meet at her house and then go for coffee at a little cafe around the corner. She scribbled her address on a post-it note. The ink on the note ran in the rain. Does that really happen in real life? It’s not a dog ate my homework type of thing. There’s a date on the line. I’ve been beating myself up all the way home. This would never happen to anyone else. As I unlock my front door, the phone rings. It’s her! She called my work and got my home number. She was worried about me. I started to explain. And she’d like to see me if it’s not too late. Meet somewhere. Is it ever too late on a Friday Night? ... xoRJ
