about

Take The Man Down is the most recent tune I've written for The Blacks. Their debut CD, Meet The Blacks, should be available late this summer. Pretty basic tune but I think it fits their image well. To quote Phil Lynott, "But man, I still think them cats are crazy."

I love a good story song, always have. Growing up around Country Music to start with offered a huge selection of story songs. The first albums I ever owned were by Marty Robbins and Johnny Horton and both artists could weave a might fine story.

The Blacks also love a good story song and they think this one's gonna be a dandy once they take it into the studio and have their way with it. Lord help us all ...

I hope you enjoy "Take The Man Down", our second installment of Blacktracks.

lyrics

Old Joe Boudreau had a still on the hill
With the 'G' men and 'T' men just sniffin' around
When a couple kids went blind and another couple died
They knew they had to find a way to take the man down

Take him down - take the man down
Take him down..... might be their only chance to do it -

When old Joe missed the curve
'Cause his brakes just wouldn't work
They knew they'd finally found a way to take the man down

Tony was the king of the sex and drug type thing
Get high all day on China White and play with his guns
When he shot himself a cop after shooting up the town
They knew they had to find him quick and take the man down

When a girl he used to beat
Cooked him up his final treat
They knew they'd finally found a way to take the man down

If you step out of song - you're dead, right or wrong
You'll cover up your tracks and keep an ear to the ground
When the mornin' finds you shot down like a dog out in the street
You'll know they finally found a way to take the man down

When the mornin' finds you fenced up like a mongrel in the pound.....
You'll know they finally found a way to take the man down.
