Say hello to an old friend .....
It seems only fitting that during the holiday season we rekindle the love and magic within our hearts and reach out and touch those near and dear to us. Like saying hello to an old friend....
For Robert James, it all began with the 45 RPM single in 1979, his first introduction to us as a recording artist. Vinyl was still king back then, and if Side A caught your fancy then the flip side surely warranted at least a listen or two. Time marched on and we now find ourselves listening to Robert's songs on a 45 single once again, albeit in the digital format and on MP3.
Santa's On His Way is a light-hearted look at the holiday season, at least through Robert's eyes. One can only imagine being at the office Christmas party with this song being played on an old phonograph that was rescued from a store room, and lovingly dusted off by the young secretary who was bold enough to venture into the far corner and retrieve it. Mistletoe is hung from the light fixtures, the staff are making merry and the ice cubes in your half-full glass make a melody that can never be duplicated ... this is the party you've waited all year for.
Sending My Heart (our imaginary B side) is a thoughtful, somewhat more serious call to old friends and loved ones. It dawns on us that no matter how much time has passed, our candle still burns as brightly as it ever did for them. We wish them the very best that life has to offer, with the hopes that we will once again be able to say hello to an old friend.
Merry Christmas, and may this one be your brightest ever!
